Boating can be relaxing, thrilling, profitable, and rewarding all at once, but it’s important to find the right waterways for your boating goals. For instance, some locations have speed restrictions, which can be nice for fishers but sad for thrill-seekers. We here at Fish and Ski Marine want to help you make the most of your time on the water, so we’ve put together a few local boating locations in Austin, Texas, to help you out. To learn more, or if you’re in need of a boat to take to one of these areas, contact our stores in Sanger and New Braunfels, Texas, today!

Lake Travis

This is the largest and deepest lake in the area around Austin. With a depth of 210 feet at its lowest point, you could even scuba dive—though you might want to save that for the summer. This lake is great for every kind of boating, and if you want to fish for some largemouth bass, this is the place! Once the sun sets, speed is restricted to 20 mph and engine noise has to be below 92 decibels, but other than that, you’re free to enjoy yourself however you choose! There are also plenty of rentals for boats and watersports equipment so you can enjoy yourself without a full-time commitment.

There are plenty of parks nearby, and loads of restaurants with docks so you can park your boat, grab a bite, and get back to cruising.

Lake Austin

Named for the city, this reservoir is a great place to go if you want to dine on the shore. Bank fishing isn’t commonly allowed in this area, since most of the shoreline is privately owned, but once again boats and boaters of all kinds are welcome. Rentals are of course available, and there are even some campsites so you can spend the night under the stars and the day on the water. Make your trip to Lake Austin an entire weekend!

Lady Bird Lake

This location in downtown Austin is a bit different than the other two. With its proximity to a large population, motorized boats aren’t allowed. However, the calm waters are perfect for paddling a canoe, kayak, and more, all to the background of the downtown Austin skyline. Red Bud Isle is a nice, shaded island just a quick paddle away, and it doubles as an off-lead dog park to boot! Hiking and bike trails are common along the shoreline so you can explore on your feet as well as in your boat, and once again non-motorized rentals are easy to find.

There are plenty of other options, but these are the three most popular lakes in the area. Contact us at Fish and Ski Marine for more information, or if you’re on the hunt for the perfect boat to take to these Austin locales.
